  1. Worst pit I've been in by far is Flogging Molly, and that was definitely due to the mass intake of alcohol by the crowd. Still fun though. I also think festival type shows often draw the worst crowds b/c people have been hanging out drinking all day.

Nearly every year, they've always played a St. Patrick Day's gig in Arizona, and THAT is crazier than any regular gig they ever play. They didn't do it last year, but they are doing it this year and have done it several years straight before.

  2. Ok, question - if I'm in the pit and want to be on the barrier, is there any chance at all of me getting merch? Is there usually stuff left after the show or will it be sold out or...?

When I went to the U2 show there wasn't much hassle before the gig, went as soon as the gates opened, but I was seated so I had plenty of time. There also seemed to be stuff left afterwards :shifty: shoud I expect the same for muse? I'd want to get a shirt and a program if they have one - and I figure the shirt I could get later online, but I don't think they've sold the programs online....

BTW I'm watching PoTC 3 and they're at the big battle at the end, the music is Man w/the Harmonica :awesome:

depends on the gig, and depends on the item. for the Vegas gig, they had nearly all the shirts available, but they sold out on the tote bags.

  3. Another question.

I am going with my mom (I'm 16 and she believes I need a chaperone) If she leaves me in line to wait and we switch on and off taking turns waiting while the other gets food, going to the bathroom, etc.. Is that considered line jumping and bad?

People are going to see you, as long as you both spend some time together in line, people will know that you're with another person and they won't find it a problem.

  4. I'm only a little Mexican woman, but I ARE A MOMMY!!! I just tell them to fuck off in my best mommy voice and it seems to work wonders! I am small, but I can be mean, like a badger!

I'm afraid of Mexican moms more than anything. I would totally be afraid of you!

  5. Note to self :Find "danger" in the line asap:p

I really appreciate this thread kids. This is my first time in GA, and my first real Muse concert. I will take all the help I can get.

I'm pretty easy to spot. People always seem to remember the way I look.

  6. If the Phoenix camp will have a cooler, I'll bring some popsicles too

That's guaranteed. I ALWAYS bring a cooler for long waits, always. Bring a bag of ice as well, if you can. You'd be surprised how much of a life savor ice can be!

Our camp we had for a Franz Ferdinand gig back in April.

  7. What happened?

This girl arrives at 4pm with about five other people, and everyone makes a big deal about them. The girl said she had been in line at 7am, but had to go to work. I got there at 10am, and she wasn't there all day. We start fighting with her, and the security is called, and the guard sides with me based on my logic that if a person is gone for nine hours, that does NOT constitute a saved spot in line. It's okay if you're gone for an hour (because it was hot that day, even I needed to go inside a business to cool off). And then all the people who I had bought popscicles for (I didn't know them) were completely on my side. Everyone was on my side except for the people who had cut in line. We were irritated because we had been under the direct sun all day, so we weren't having any of that. There's a difference when one person joins someone, but it's another thing when five-ten people jump to the very FRONT of line, thinking that they are entitled to it.

It was sweeeeeet watching her and her friends march angrily to the end of the line. :awesome:

So when you're in the pit, is it possible to like, enjoy the actual music?

Yes. Don't bring a camera then so you won't be distracted.

  8. I remember you posting some of your pictures from that gig in the Franz thread ages ago! He really was on top of you :chuckle: It's odd though, I'd never have though that they'd get such a rough crowd.

    They do.

    :awesome: :awesome: :awesome:

Even though I'm reliving past gigs for other bands, there are at lease some general lessons to be taught.

  9. :yesey:

Better to find out now then in the pit!

Another thing: If someone wants out and needs help climbing over the rail, please offer a hand. Just be careful because the crowd tends to jump in immediately after the person has gone over the side to fill in the space they have vacated.

If you are far enough away from the rail, it is usually easier to make your way sideways or backwards to another exit.

+1 in addition, do what you should so if you were to get stuck in an ocean current. Move in the along the direction in the crowd current.

  10. It really is smart, and it came in very handy that night when I spent literally the ENTIRE duration of Doberman doubled over the barrier with my head covered! Odd thing is, that's actually a slow song by Kasabian standards  That doesn't sound stupid, I get what you mean - I guess it's something you tend to pick up the more gigs you go to.

Same  Had a hefty bruise on my left shoulder after the O2!

The roughest gigs I've ever been to are for The Hives gigs. Sounds weird, especially that The Hives aren't "trendy" anymore, but there are always some "punk" kids at every gig that get the crowd in riots. I've been a LOT of gigs, but never in my life have I ever been so badly hurt that I had to literally crawl the next week recovering. Even the slightest movements were unbearable. Plus, it doesn't help when Howlin' Pelle (lead singer) left a HUGE bruise on your chest from kicking it, and your scalp hurts because he was pulling your hair so hard. Which happened to me because he decided to stand on top of me several times, literally. GOD I love this band.

  11. Sweet. It really sucks that there's no shade at all outside though :\ good thing there are fans?

I probably won't be able to get there around noonish, so hopefully there aren't going to be a ton of people who get there in the morning.

Bring an umbrella, told the others about that.

  12. "If you see me, or any of the other guards suddenly moving in front of you, duck over the barrier and fold your arms over your head."

Figured that ageees ago, but it is great advice. also I have a strange ability to stress some kind of abnormality around me (sounds dumb). Yes, it's normal when the audience is pushing and shoving, but I can sense some kind of shift in attention with patrons around me, particularly when dealing with crowd surfing (long before I physically see the surfer) and people passing out. It sounds REALLY stupid, but I guess I have a heightened sense of intuition with gigs.

Aye, but I've had so many close encounters with getting the snot beat out of my head by crowdsurfers, even if I duck and cover.

  13. And this is why,

I will be a sane 14 year old (at the time of)

    and take seats,

IF I land those Toronto tickets.

I mean, I was at the barricade for a Paramore show,

    and was pushed,

    grinded with (Unintentionally...?)

    And was fully bruised afterwards,

    but that was nothing.

NOTHING to what I think Muse would be like.

You also have a young body. After so many gigs, when you become older, your body becomes somewhat calloused to handling rougher gigs that you barely even bruise anymore.

  14. Thanks for the advice, that sounds perfect:happy:. Do you know where the Phoenix people will probably stand? It would be nice to be able to be with the group rather than complete and total strangers.

There's only one main queue, it'll be easy to spot us. We'll have a full camp going on.

  15. I'm terrified but really excited. I wanna see Maffoo but it's probably not worth getting pulverized. Hopefully I will meet up with Musers for Phoenix :) I won't feel safe with just my one buddy.

Also: there is a place to put bags? My phone is a bit of a brick.

I own a big Blackberry, I usually get a (tiny) bag with zipper and a loooong strap, and you can put it around your neck/shoulder. If it helps, you can even get a miniature lock and lock the zipper if you're really worried about pickpockets.

  16. If you're in seats, more importantly, don't tell the people who stand up for muse to "sit the fuck down." That happened to Mary, Lara, Liron and I at the SF show in 2007. Bastards.

Not really Muse related, but similar.

I went to the No Doubt/Paramore/The Sounds gig back in May and I had a seat. One of my favorite bands is the Sounds and I stood up for their set (they were opening) even though everyone except for a few other fans were sitting. I don't think it's a bad thing to stand up for a band, no matter even if they're opening, this was my band. I wanted to stand with the other fans, they had seats near the aisle, but mine was more center section. I was told by security that I wasn't allowed to stand anywhere but my seat. Anyways, these girls behind me kept telling me to sit down. I tried to be respectful and not jump/dance around as much, but as soon as they started to make fun of me, I held out my Swedish flag (The Sounds are from Sweden) as wide as I could to block their view. I only try to be nice until people start disrespecting me. If people want to see, they can stand up as well, the seating is elevated.

  17. Percentage-wise, what are the chances that my glasses will get broken? I don't have contacts, and I kinda like to see. :erm: I've been wanting new ones, so I guess I don't care that much if they get pulverized. :)

Thanks for this thread. It's given me a lot to think (worry) about. ;) I'm definitely someone who likes to do the research and be prepared.

50/50. I wear glasses, never worn contacts ever. I almost broke my glasses as several gigs (Muse gigs are tame compared to most I attend), but as long as you're aware of the people around you (particularly crowd surfers), you'll survive. Duck and cover!
