  1. Yea, buy your tickets immediately when they go on sale (or pre-sale) and you'll have incredible seats. I was really happy with my seats, and I could see everything - I think I got them real early on the day of the actual sale.

Absolutely don't go to the front of the GA though....I'm a 6 foot tall guy, pretty solid, and I've been worried in pits before. Mob mentality can be a scary thing.

And I've pulled my girlfriend out of several concerts after she's passed out. She's got a good 3-4 inches on you.

Sounds like your girlfriend keeps locking her knees while standing. Even the strongest dudes will pass out if they do that long enough.

Remember to bend and flex your legs as much as possible, and usually, no matter how much people push, you will be ok. The crowd will surge forward but will usually surge back in the opposite direction in moments. If you remain calm and just ride out the surge, you will actually learn to anticipate and even enjoy the "washing machine" effect. :D

It is very similar to being chest deep in the ocean with waves of water pushing and pulling you as the waves roll in and out.

  2. I'm so glad this thread is here - I will be going to not only my first Muse concert, but my first concert ever. I will be in the seats for one concert and in GA for the second so I'll get to experience both worlds (unless I manage to swap my seated ticket for a GA ticket).

OK, so I've read through this whole thread and I'm pretty sure these questions haven't been asked.

I plan to get to the venue very early so I can get a spot at the barrier, and I was wondering when do they generally open the gate? About an hour before the show starts? How long does the band usually play? I've heard about 2 - 2 1/2 hours is average. Also, are there breaks throughout the show, like after the opening band? I really want to be in the pit, but I'm starting to think I might not have the stamina for it, especially if it last longer than a few hours.

I am completely ignorant about rock concerts so any info would be helpful. I want to be as prepared as possible.

    Thanks!

The thread still lives!!! My first Muse gig was also my first pit experience. Luckily, I had been to other band gigs, and watched the insanity of the floor from the safety of my seat. Some kids out there are complete n00bs, and not only have a miserable time at the gig, but make those around them miserable as well.

Be prepared, Don't Be a Dick, and most importantly of all, have fun!

  3. chill out at the side or back of the pit

from what i've been reading it's only intense at the front - mid and on matts side.. anyone in the pit will be closer to muse than seated people so regardless of where you are in the pit it should be awesome

kind of a dumb questino but the back is going to be a lot easier to breathe and it probably won't be as sweaty right?

Depends on how much jumping and dancing you do. I was in a seat for ACX and I still lost half my body weight in sweat! I go a bit wild :D

Wow this thread is great! Scary at first, but I think all the tips will help. And do you guys prefer to wear ear plugs or not? The last concert I went to I didn't wear anything and it sounded amazing. Does it take away from the sound quality if you wear them?

Also out of curiosity, those of you that were on the barrier, how early did you get there? I'm thinking about going at like 7am maybe... D:

If you are going to a gig in the states, you will likely be the first in line :) If you plan on being there that early, I hope you either have someone waiting with you that you can switch off with, or someone who can deliver snacks and stuff to you.

  4. :) lol I'm glad you said that because I was starting to doubt my past experiences reading all these post. I've been in GA plenty of times and I was only mauled once. That was because I wanted to be up at the front and didn't realize how people were going to act. In the middle/back of the GA is a lot more tame

Yeah, things only tend to get crazy in the the front, or if some morons try to actually mosh somewhere. If you are lucky enough to be tall, you may want to consider staying back a bit, and leaving the rail to us vertically challenged midgets :p

  5. Such good advice, though it sounds like everyone is preparing for some epic battle. I suppose it certainly can be. I've been in the pit at many shows and as long as I was right on the barrier have done fairly well minus a few bruises here and there, and I'm pretty small. Put me back a few rows ... not so well. Sometimes it just depends on the show and that crowd. At Alice in Chains at Vegas Jen & I stood dead center about 10 rows back and we were fine, quite a bit of space until there was a little surge and some asshat spilled part of his beer on me about 3/4 of the way through the show. You'd think if he was that determined to bring his drink into the pit he would have drank it by that time, geez. For Muse we were in front of Chris and aside from an interesting few behind us things actually stayed relatively decent. Both my forearms are bruised though, but that was just from being pushed into the barrier itself.

Worst pit I've been in by far is Flogging Molly, and that was definitely due to the mass intake of alcohol by the crowd. Still fun though. I also think festival type shows often draw the worst crowds b/c people have been hanging out drinking all day.

Btw, people still throw bottles? Unfortunate. There was an opener at one show called the Creepy Creeps that was unloved by the crowd (may have been that FM show?) Frontman dressed as mariachi played every song on a coffin shaped keyboard set to organ, and even then nobody chucked anything at him, though they possibly should have. :stunned:

The Chris side is usually tamer than Matt's side, although when I was on Chris's side in Utah, the crowd was really rough! I thought Utah was conservative! :stunned:

That had to be the youngest crowd I had been in though. The kids tend to go a bit crazier than us older kids ;)

  6. this thread makes me feel like flipping my GA ticket.. Only reason I got it was because the two friends I'm going with "NEED" to be in the pit whereas I'd rather get away from all the abuse and intensity and just enjoy the show.

Any idea how long it'll be before I get my tickets from Concert Maps? I'm probably gonna try and ask my friend from work to get me a seat with him.

If you feel like this now, I would definitely stay out of the pit! You will be absolutely miserable! Usually you get your tix within a few weeks, If I am not mistaken.

  7. I am interrupting my Muse obsession for a moment with my Mythbusters obsession:

I just tweeted a question to Tory from Mythbusters and he responded!!!

    solorjones

What movie would you have killed to work on? #torychat

    MythBusters

    @solorjones TORY: That's a good question. Goodfellas. #torychat

    :awesome::awesome:

Sorry! He is so hot!!!

  8. I'm afraid of Mexican moms more than anything. I would totally be afraid of you!

I had to fend off two Mexican moms at my own house at 5am. They were two of my friends' moms. Not fun.

Yeeeah, I remember you telling me that. That was horrible. :(

    Oh well. I won. :awesome:

    I knooooow. :awesome:

    :awesome:

    :awesome:

I need to hear this story sometime!

  9. What about in the actual seats?

I tried so so hard to get floor seats but I couldn't. :(

I've never been to a stadium concert, so I was just wondering how it would be. :p

Will there still be people jumping around in the upper seats area? I was so looking forward to being in the pit and just going crazy with everyone else haha. :p

At a proper Muse gig, the seats can explode! Depends on the people around you. But if no else around you jumps around like a maniac, don't let that stop you!

  10. Start exercisiiiiing!

You should have told security! I told the guy to fuck off and that he wasn't taking my spot. I also yelled at 3 little kids who were pushing me on purpose.

Most definitely, tell security! If you have been on the rail since the beginning, the security guards will most likely threaten to pull out anyone that tries to force you off the rail. I have seen several people kicked out for doing what this person did.

Which reminds me, if you are on the rail, make nice with security directly in front of you. They will definitely look out for you and prevent this sort of thing. Some security dudes are super sweet!

  11. So when you're in the pit, is it possible to like, enjoy the actual music?

It really depends on a lot of factors. If you are really short, you need to be either up front, or way back where you can see. I am short and like to be up front, despite the risks. And would take a pummeling on the rail over a seat any day!

And yes, I have always enjoyed the music. There is no risk of not being able to hear it, no matter where you are, or how many people around you are singing along.

  12. I am really happy you started this thread because now I know I made the right choice in getting seats. I thought about getting GA, but the thought of being in such a tight crowd scares me shitless! Especially because I tend to faint when I stand for too long and I tend to panic in crowds :$ I also want to go there for the music and not so much for the action in the pit. I will enjoy wathcing the pit more than being in it ;)

So thanks a lot, I feel much reassured! :D

    :yesey:

Better to find out now then in the pit!

Another thing: If someone wants out and needs help climbing over the rail, please offer a hand. Just be careful because the crowd tends to jump in immediately after the person has gone over the side to fill in the space they have vacated.

If you are far enough away from the rail, it is usually easier to make your way sideways or backwards to another exit.

  13. Don't Ugg boots make your feet very warm even when you're just sitting around doing nothing? If you're going to be jumping around and stuff in them I think your feet will be sweating like crazy.

Yup, sweaty feet = not good

It's usually calmest in front of Chris (all that head-banging is hypnotizing??), much crazier in the center and in front of Matthew.

If you are near Matt and he breaks into an awesome solo or riff, HOLD ON FOR DEAR LIFE! Everyone surges forward for a better view and to take a pic!

  14. I've been to a ton of gigs, but honestly, Muse gigs aren't nearly as rough as most the bands I see. I didn't even break a sweat this weekend in Vegas!

That is because you are an ANIMAL!

I didn't find it that bad either, but there were quite a few people that had to be pulled out. One poor girl apparently had a seizure!

This is just basic advice for teh pit n00bs. Don't want any of them to miss out on an amazing gig because they were unprepared.

  15. I would have closed this thread, but seems it's still here. Let me repost the most important bit of advice:

And I almost forgot Wheaton's Law!!!!!

    DON'T BE A DICK!!!!

LOL! You literally beat me in creating the thread by 3 minutes!

Still glad we were able to impart some important knowledge to all you Musers out there. Mary has taken her share of punishment for her fave band and keeps coming back for more!

Take precautions, and maybe we'll see one of y'all out there rocking alongside us!

  16. Mods: there have been threads like this before, but I think this will be pretty helpful to all the Musers who haven't been to concerts or haven't been in the pit before. It's a shame when someone's Muse concert experience is ruined because they were uninformed. So please don't lock it!

lol! I just made a new thread Mary! It is a little more indepth. My apologies to the mods if it is redundant!
