Honestly, anyone who can't find something to love about Euphoria needs to re-examine their being.

do you still hate exo-politics? haha. just checking.

    anyway:

verona is interesting because as the arpeggiated synths move down; everything else moves up. that's hard to compose and make it not sound like a mess. ghosts should've been on cryosleep. halloween is a better panic station.

i have other opinions on other songs, but will have to share them later, because i have a vested interest in the expanded upcoming tour production (tba), as i have the last few.

finally, i was a lurker before i officially joined here, and each is entitled to his/her/he/she/they/them/it (whatever i missed, sorry), but i take people's opinions who join here after a few songs have been released in a given album cycle and then trash the album in full when it's released with a grain of salt. you know who you are.

  3. part of the "problem" is that the band plays songs so well live that come closer to studio recordings more than just about any other out there.

i agree, on KOBK studio, the mids are too high, the bass isn't nearly heavy enough, and the vocals are too compressed. but these are probably matt-approved (and maybe dom-approved) stylistic choices. i can hear influences from every album they've released from showbiz to date...even ST at the end (it's probably a lead-in to the next track) -- and i think that's what they were aiming for with KOBK. or, at least the label wanted them to do so with at least one song.

oddly, my biggest gripe with KOBK studio is that there should have been a full half (or even quarter or eighth) rest of all music (i.e. complete silence) between Yah, Yah Yah Yah, Yahweh Yah Yahweh Yah Yah Yah, and the next Yah Yah Yah in the first part of the breakdown. but i'm really nitpicking here. silence can be golden.

i agree that the first half of drones probably does capture muse "live" in studio at its best -- alongside the dead star/IYW b-side release -- but at least this comes somewhere close (ish). there are a few others out there, but few and far between. but again, the issue is how well a band can replicate itself live when trying to mirror a studio recording with minimal backing tracks -- a hallmark of great bands. i remember the days when muse basically refused to use virtually any backing tracks (hence having to add morgan, and now dan) when more operatic stuff required the inclusion.

if i were an octopus and had toes and fingers on each extremity, i think that would cover most of the bands in history that can actually come close to pulling off live versions that approximate studio recordings, and muse is one of them.

I like it, but still prefer the live version. Maybe cause we got it earlier and listened to it a couple of times? I‘ll wait for the CD to listen in better quality tough. Call me old-fashioned.. yes when it‘s about how to listen to music 😏

This yayayayaaaaa is a bit weird, don‘t you think ? But it‘s very Muse. I wonder how „Live and let die“ influenced it, maybe only its title?

i'm older school than that. i've not listened to anything/watched any videos, and won't until album release day. i just like reading commentary until then. sounding mostly negative, but that's reddit and discord for ya.

preordered my physical copy / bundle / what-have-you, and i'll probably just pass judgment after i buy FLAC files off qobuz on the day when i have the chance to listen to the album front to back, short as it may be, all in one fell swoop (and then watch live videos). i don't do these shenanigans for any other band, even though it's jumped the shark as far as i'm concerned. 😑

i have a ticket to a theatre gig in october, but i need to book a flight, and my main airline that i use just canceled like 90,000 flights today. i'll tackle that bear tomorrow.

  5. thankfully i purchased harry styles pit tickets and for front row for two NY shows at face value. those will be sold and resale proceeds will applied to a ticket and airfare/lodging for one of the three US gigs. budget: a few thousand for a 3 day-trip...anything beyond that is nuts. and it may be nuts to begin with...esp. if they end up playing crap. but, the US has never truly gotten a deep cuts gig, despite contrary opinion, so i'll hope for the best. had to cross the pond a couple times for recent-ish club/theatre gigs.

  6. fwiw, i have used the piano breakdown in RBS as my ringtone for as long as i can remember.

i also made multiple tones that i use for multiple alarms (i tend to sleep through quite a few each day, so i set them up back-to-back-to-back over a series of minutes (hah)) with parts of: AP, bliss, exo pt. 1, exo pt. 3, mk ultra, UD, USoE, uprising, reapers, and...defector, lol. i also made a tone from MGMT's metanoia at some point a long way back. i think i must have had time to kill and spliced parts out of 'em.

Closing with something like We Are Fucking Fucked reminds me of how Biffy closed their latest album with something equally odd in Slurpy Slurpy Sleep Sleep.

is this the general consensus of the title of the closing track?

also, if this is only a 10-song album, i'm thinking of a late may digital release and a physical release mid-to-late summer.

  8. 4 (relatively irrelevant songs) in a day-and-a-half doesn't solve the "rainy day."   need the full gig to make people happy. i guess 5 total (including the Futurism "Christmas" gift is OK, but likely others want to see the others.

in the meantime, i think they're far along on a ST tour stream/DVD release by now, given how early Matt was working on it.  we'll see.

  9. remastering on both SB and OoS is simply ramping down the bass (why?), ramping up the middles a bit, adding clarity to vocals, boosting the snare, and jacking up the treble equalizations to, again, add clarity to bits that may not have been really wanted in the first place.

nice to hear the various incorporations/layers a bit more, but not sure i'm satisfied with how the total RMs were executed...

  10. there are a few hidden snippets on disc 1.  need time to get thru the rest.

ordered two extras in case there's some sort of a gaffe post-wise.

gonna have to compare the remasters to see if i can detect any noticeable differences...jury's out. again, need, some time...

went thru the first couple tracks on vinyl...pressed decently. definitely not objectionable, really.

  11. they had to get a 20-year anniversary release out in 2019, otherwise the release would look a bit foolish/tardy.  i wouldn't be surprised if warner is planning on posting pre-orders out even a bit early, given the heavy amount of general holiday mailings.  the band is also, perhaps, employing a smaller pressing plant for the vinyl, as that is what usually causes delays of releases.

    stay tuned...

Also, the artwork is lazy as fuck.

yeah, although all of their "rigid box sets" have been some form/version of that minimalistic look with MUSE on the front.  maybe they didn't want to stray too far away from that pattern...which, yes, is lazy.

as for the vinyl, a mix of blues for showbiz and mix of yellow/orange for OoS.  maybe they could've marbled/splattered the wax or something...

and then you have the woman overlaying that blood orange-ified OoS album cover art in that one mock-up.  don't know what to say about that...

  13. ordered from the muse store, but hopefully the shipment doesn't become an s***fest akin to the issues of some of the ST orders...

maybe i'll also pre-order from RT as a backup; i can always cancel prior to shipment if need be.
