  1. Ha! I do love it when knights defend bridges. So much put into something so small and pointless. Who needs to defend a kingdom when I can defend this bridge?! But then again I find most of the Arthur stories accidentally hilarious. Which version of Lancelot were you reading? I only really know Malory's Morte Darthur version well. I really need to get around to reading Chretien's original romance at some point. It's an amusingly dishonourable way for Lancelot to be introduced into the legend, forced to ride in a cart, causing everyone he meets to not take him seriously and dismiss him as a low born pretender rather than a real knight.

  2. Ha! I liked that. Very well done.

  3. So you did! Missed that somehow. Have to admit to still not having seen Branagh's Hamlet! That's definitely one of many outstanding on my to-watch list.

I read that with some friends at a drunken party in the summer! I really must by it. It was hilarious. Can file it next to my choose-your-own-adventure Hamlet ('To Be or Not To Be') and the 'Shakespeare Not Stirred' cocktail recipe book (inc. 'Now is the Whiskey of our Discontent', 'Exit Pursued by a Beer', 'Get Thee to a Winery' and 'Caliban's Wrong Island Ice Tea'). Both are amazing!

  4. Ha! Glad someone liked my Shakespeare fanboying. I'd love any more recommendations too, if you have any favourites I missed!

  5. Thanks man, will give it a listen!

  6. I just wondered how you'd react to the cup final, via your football thread persona, if you were a Spurs fan! In terms of direct post inspiration, I may have copied/adapted this one: http://board.muse.mu/showpost.php?p=10476095&postcount=9342

  7. I can't even remember where my user name came from! But I probably was first discovering post-rock around then. I still like it. In my mind it does still kind of capture two of the things that I'm most drawn to in music: noise and atmosphere, preferably with a futuristic or unsettling feel!

  8. Permission granted. Carry on sergeant major.

  9. MAGIC.

...A while ago really. In the Biffy thread after you went to see them. But arriving back post-Lottie's party with a head full of rum, I felt this needed to be stated!

  10. By the way, FOUND!

  11. Legolas by Laura has to be the best film I've seen all year.

In other news, I'm going to Cuba in 2 days! :awesome:

  12. No costumes?! What's your new job?

  13. Drama Society party! The theme is "what went wrong". I'm dressing up as a Jurassic Park tour guide in a ripped and bloody shirt. Bought an official Jurassic Park patch for it last week (like THIS)! :awesome:

    What are you doing?

  14. I know! Luckily they're both lovely. First reaction was "oh dear", but that was quickl'y followed by: "Aww! they're such a sweet couple!" They are awesome people. And we shall play QUICHITCH!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZW_dwd_WJY

Quite obviously the best bit of the entire series. :yesey: Now I'm doing the Volde-orgasming noise with the hug. Helen's getting quite afraid.

I'm wondering whether to try and see Arctic Monkeys. They're playing Cardiff, but on my birthday. And whilst I do like them, do i really like them enough/more than my birthday?

  15. Neither do I. They weren't going out when we moved in! But it only took them 2 weeks to hook up. Hopefully it won't make things difficult down the line. They are both lovely people though! They helped me invent Quichitch. Which is like Quidditch, but messier and played in a park with quiches. The beaters shall be given eggs and a whisk. We are so cool.

The Joy Formidable are from Wales! :awesome: Glad they're making headway. I'd like to hear them go full out weird on their second album! Their first is very good though. Lots and lots of riffs. :yesey:

    You bet it is!

Voldehug! I've been giving Helen lots of Voldehugs since seeing the film. It's disturbing her.

  16. 3 others. And 2 of them are going out. As of last night. This could get interesting. And we don't need bouncy castles. Our beds are quite bouncy enough. I blame the wine. This house is sighing sex already.

It's pretty bad in the UK in general. Especially in the cities. It's pretty much orange day and night out there, and this is one of the smallest cities here. Why?

They didn't get that big over here! A small success, but not massive. Which is a shame as they are very good. Are they getting big in the US?

Yep, our uni has a Harry Potter Society: http://ministryofmuggles.org I have seen it now! And I was very pleasantly surprised! I thought it was light-years better than the other films. All 3 of them could finally act well! I know Grint has been acting well for a couple now, but Daniel Radcliffe?! My god... It was brilliantly shot and edited too, with some French cinema-esque stylised flourishes. There were still some random laughs though! Cinema started to titter at Snape's. Bizarre. Opening. Speech. With pauses. You could. Drive. A. Bus. Through. Then later laughed at Voldemort's random laugh to himself when declaring Harry dead, and laughed even more a second later when he gave Malfoy a confusingly out of character hug.

  17. Then put those faces back in the jar where they belong. It is a fun house. There will be many a fancy dress party in these walls. For a proper zombie you're looking at £100 worth of rum because of all the varieties involved. Although we would get many zombies out of them!

I unstitched it from Cardiff's patchwork night sky.

. Which is a good description! 3 incredibly abrasive guitars, 1 bass, 1 keyboard, 1 drum kit, 1 drum machine, and vocals all turned to maximum volume, and then the venue decided to amplify all of it to maximum rather than bother with sound levels. I've rarely seen a room empty so quickly! I of course stood right at the front for the whole set with a dedicated group of noise lovers and flailing madmen waving around bags of Class A drugs and shouting "LOUDER!" Not that you could hear them over the noise. I loved it! But then again I am hardcore. And deaf.

Wooo! Finally left El Paso then. You'll need to bring me some new sand. I probably won't see Potter till Monday, as that's when Helen is free, and she is in the University Harry Potter Society. She's a Hufflepuff. She's a particularly good finder. (Have you seen

    ?!)

Mobiliarquiche! Or we could play a broomstick borne game of Quichitch! :awesome:

  18. Hello! I'm not dead. Just resting. My new flatmates (in my new beautiful house) are keen on my idea of zombies in china teapots! Problem is it will be expensive. Especially buying the 151% proof rum. It's a good house. I have a fabric comet:

We've started a house blog (not my idea, but i'll run with it). And I've made a POST! This is my achievement of the week. Along with being deafened by the loudest band I've ever seen, and making a cool PDF of one of the rare medieval "rymes" i'm reading for my thesis. YEAH COOL. No one can tell me otherwise!

HOW ARE YOU? Have you seen Harry Potter yet? EDIT: I see you're a mod now! How did that happen? Don't they know you'll go Voldemort power-crazy!?!

  19. I'm cooking a dinner party tomorrow night. Seem to have spent the entire day shopping. I'm going to make:

Starter - Mushrooms topped with melted goat's cheese, on toasted ciabatta and pea shoot salad.

Main Course - Roasted peppers stuffed with spiced beef, served with couscous and a drizzle of humous.

Dessert - Some kind of French tart, if I can find one tomorrow!

  20. Have you seen The Adventures of Baron Munchausen? It's my other favourite Terry Gilliam movie, and there is quite a lot in common between them! I absolutely love it. Them.

Zombie! Best cocktail ever. The one at Buffalo Bar here has recently put a restriction on it, so you can only buy 2 per night. Which is sad, as before that me and Johannes used to drink around 4-6 a night. Depending on the night. :awesome: EDIT: Whoa! Reading the "history" section I see a limit of two is common: "The restaurant limit of two Zombies, therefore, would be the equivalent of 7 regular cocktails such as a Manhattan or Scotch on the rocks."

    Partying is good. :yesey:

  21. My little sister said she was really reminded of me when Anton was playing with the pipe near the beginning. I do love that film. It's wonderfully weird.

Life is good. My PhD 6 month review went really well last wednesday! I saw a good French film last night with Johannes (L'affaire Farewell), and we then proceeded to get rather drunk on zombies. Mmmm... zombies. I'm cooking a dinner party for 4 friends on friday, and I really want to make my own zombie cocktail and serve it in a china tea pot. Sadly I have neither the money for the multiple types of rum involved, or the tea pot!

How is the life of Lujan?

  22. Neeyeeaaaaaaaaahhhh!

  23. Actually, I'm the love-child of Johnny Greenwood and Andrew Garfield. My Daddies are on one page! TRUFAX.

I miss the play! *sad face* It was the best 5 months. Seen a lot of the others since though - in parks, yurts, and cocktail glasses. And we had a very drunken after-show party (including a full-on 60's cuddle orgy), and a full reunion at the BALL! The 5 night run itself went very well indeed! Got a fantastic review in the student newspaper and lots of laughs. And a last night which involved real alcohol, Iron Man boxer shorts, unexpected dildos, unexpected apples, unexpected Southern preachers, Blackadder quotes, Rick rolling, and a whole lot of confetti. I really enjoyed playing a foolish drunkard of a knight!

Have a shit load of photos:

  24. What about a deerstalker hat?

Wine is of course my life blood. The poem does have lots of graphic sexual imagery in it. But that makes me want to swim in the words.

I tend to find I love poetic prose, but rarely poetry itself. Not sure why. It's as though the structure and enforced pattern saps the life out of it for me. So it has to be very odd, very inventive, full of buried meanings, and very visually dense and imaginative for me to like it. Come to think of it, Howl pretty much ignores structure too!
