  1. Update: listened to it since posting last and man if it didn't make me shake my little ass! Everyone's entitled to their opinions but this is the first single that has me stoked for the album. Got me shaking my little ass! It's definitely the Uprising/Psycho/Pressure of the album and with that comes some lyricism to be desired but I will almost always take "Muse just having a blast" if given the option especially when it makes me shake my little ass. Hopefully it's not the best song on the album but if most of what's left is in this direction, there may be hope for me yet!

They go: ‘Muse say ministry of truth!!1!! Red pill confirmed!!’, rather than: ‘George Orwell wrote 1984, a novel about propaganda and oppression in an authoritarian regime. Since its publication, 1984 is often referenced by opponents of real and perceived authoritarianism and propaganda. In response, propagandists themselves like to accuse their political opponents of Orwellian practices.

I mean, I agree with what your saying but "ministry of truth" is pretty infamously a buzz phrase these days and when you throw that onto the pile with a song/album called "Will Of The People", another buzz phrase often utilized by the same people; as well as a song called "Compliance" with a music video in which people are ripping off masks, it's just... it seems like it will appeal to the wrong type of people. I know Matt well enough to trust that he doesn't actually espouse these views but if this is all truly accidental then he needs an editor before finalizing lyrics. If it's all ironic, I guess I haven't put the whole picture together. And maybe that's it: it's a concept album, maybe it all makes sense when we see the big picture.

  3. For the longest time I've ragged on the pop rock tracks like Uprising and Pressure but I've developed a soft spot for them. We know they're capable of much more complex songwriting but man if those songs aren't a good time!

Need that tour announcement soon man. Starting to actually get my hopes up that they wont skip over NC this time.

  4. As resident unpopular opinion guy, I actually don't mind Starlight as a closer so long as they put some umph into it. I believe I recall them closing with Survival at one of the shows I saw in 2013. Wasn't bad but felt like a transitional track rather than a closer. CE would make a great closer, I will die on this hill!

The album’s title track “Will Of The People” brings playful provocation to a dystopian glam-rocker while there is an innocence and a purity to the nostalgic electronic textures of “Verona.”

The August release date is brutal but will fly by I'm sure. I don't want to be inundated with singles like we were for Drones and ST but we need at least one more to hold us over until then. WotP and Verona sound like they could potentially be good summer jams?

I’m more worried about it being T2L 2 so far, with Matt and the press release saying every song is a different genre and “best of” a certain version of Muse

I love Compliance and don’t mind WSD though so even if it flows like oil and water, maybe I can still enjoy the individual tracks.

Ah well I'm a T2L apologist so they might be speaking my language 😏

  7. Sadly this is the least hyped I've been for a new release. Album rollouts are fun in general so there's a little bleed over from that but I strongly dislike WSD and Compliance could very well grow on me but for now it's just fine. Even the aesthetics of album are a bit of a turn off for me. Smells way too much of Drones 2 to me. I admit that I jumped the gun on worrying about Matt's messaging. It's still lame, but not ideologically reprehensible like I feared.

Anyways I pre-ordered the deluxe bundle...

    Compliance out March 17!

"Compliance is about the promise of safety and reassurance sold to us by powerful entities during times of vulnerability. Gangs, governments, demagogues, social media algorithms & religions seduce us with misleading untruths and comforting fables. They want us to join their narrow worldview in exchange for obedience and turning a blind eye to our own internal voice of reason & compassion. They just need our Compliance." (Matt)

    Oh my...

Taking a deep breath and telling myself not to assume i know what he's referring to but "wont stand down" "will of the people" and "compliance" feel very buzzword-y to me.

  9. As stated previously, going to try to remain optimistic but now that we're almost two months out from WSD, I can say definitively that it doesn't do it for me. Not saying it's bad but I cannot see myself listening to it again outside of the context of the album. And that "will of the people" chant has me bracing myself for Drones Pt 2. Not that it's my place to say whether or not that's a good thing but it wouldn't be my first choice.

WITH THAT SAID, there's nothing quite as exciting to me as a new album rollout (coughAndTourcough). Are we expecting an announcement tomorrow or should I lower my expectations?

I don't hope it's more like  a "yeah, the album will be out sometime 2022" message

I think that's exactly what it is ;)

or there's no album at all and any time they spent in recording studios over the past year was all for WSD.

    oh dear god

So if we're to believe that WSD is any indication of what we're getting on the record/tour.......does that mean pop medley? 😏 Muprh rising from the stage with a Snapchat dog ear filter while the band plays "Guiding Light"

Amplifier – Amplifier (self-titled); Arcane Roots – Melancholia Hymns; Black Peaks – Statues; Cave In – Antenna; Kyuss – Sky Valley; Monster Magnet – Spine of God; Oceansize – Frames; Porcupine Tree – Deadwing (although In Absentia, Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream are all 10/10); and Turbowolf – The Free Life.

Thanks for the recs! I'm definitely leaning towards the Sabbathy/stoner metal bands. I know they're a little divisive but I'm really liking The Sword as well. Excited to check out Kyuss as I've been on a QOTSA kick lately as well. Side note: I'm back into Mars Volta after a decade of not really listening to them too much, thanks to this thread. :)

The falsetto on "eyes" and "disguise" I actually love.

Same! It's not Muse without at least a hint of camp, which is a huge factor of what I love about them.

  12. One of the more unexpected results of this track is me dabbling a bit in the world of metal. I don't foresee myself becoming an out and out metalhead but I'm digging some Mastodon, Baroness, and Deftones which is quite a divergence for a guy who would list Arcade Fire, The National, etc as some of my favorite bands.

  13. Okay FINE! I admit I've listened to this track quite a few more times than I initially expected and gosh darnit if it aint an ear worm. I still don't think it reaches instant classic status and I stand by my presumption that I will gravitate towards other songs as they come. But this will make a great opener live if they decide to go in that direction.

Anyways, let's have that aLBUM ANNOUNCEMENT PLEASEEEEEEEE!! 😩

  14. I had fun with it. I don't think it really has legs, for me at least. Will probably give it a frequent listen until the next single then it will be a once in a blue moon listen. I'm not really a metal fan, at least not of this variety, so I may not be the best audience for this. Nevertheless, this will probably be a blast live.

  15. Sorry for the double post but what's the over/under that we'll get an album announcement with the single? Do we think this will be like Dig Down/Thought Contagion? Or a legit promo single? I'm leaning towards the latter as when DD/TC were released, the band wasn't really hinting at an impending album release whereas this go round they're clearly laying the ground work.

dunno if anyone else here saw the short-lived attempted coup of Musewiki lmao.

That was pretty wild lol. I frequent Reddit personally but it's not my favorite. I love the band but idk how many times I can stomach the same album ranking charts with all the albums in S tier. Geez, maybe it's the pandemic but I feel like I've become a real bummer on these boards since the ST days. 🤐

We could at least all hang out here today and live comment when the song/video launches.

I'll be on my way to work when the video drops but I'll be here in spirit!

I thought of this when the most recent verse clip was released but didn't mention it - but we've basically heard the entire song. The only thing I'm anticipating is hearing the chorus and riffing in quality that isn't someone streaming from their phone off their car stereo lol.

But basically - newest clip = verse. Short riffage = pre chrous leading into "won't stand down" chorus. The extended riffing section is very likely the bridge. Comes after a chorus and even leads into what is likely the chorus repeated a few times before the song finishes.

Given that its a radio single I'm not expecting any surprises outside that but it will be nice to actually hear the song together in proper quality.

I've only listened to each clip once through so I'm at least interested to see how that meh Imagine Dragons sounding intro leads to the thrashing. Again, I say this all with loads of positivity! 🤓

I remember originally being so ridiculously hyped for Drones and outside of The Handler, Reapers and moments on the Globalist we had a pretty cheesy album that didn’t live upto the hype filled with radio singles like Dead inside, mercy, revolt and that awful ballad aftermath or whatever it was called.
hopefully this time we get something a bit more cohesive and muse abandon trying to make the top 40 with a pop song.

I actually think they're capable of putting out banger pop songs (Panic Station, Propaganda) but yeah, the non-single tracks on Drones were pretty weak and considering half the album had been released by the time we heard the whole thing, it was an underwhelming experience.

I still think this is too many, but given the fact that Dig Down and Thought Contagion were released seemingly eons before the album was dropped (or even announced), it was less sensory overload than Drones.

Let me know if I my memory is incorrect on these.

I think Pressure is the only other one but I agree that the prolonged release of the ST singles cushioned the blow a little. I hope we only get 1-2 more singles before the full release.

  19. I like to focus on the positive in general but between the snippets I've heard and bits of lyrics I've seen, I'm focusing my energies on being excited about an album announcement, future singles, and imminent tour announcement (fingers crossed). Not to be a bummer, I'm glad it's getting mostly positive response from the fanbase, it's just not to my liking quite yet. But, as I said, this seems likely to be an announcement single, meaning we may get an album release date as well. Maybe not. I am nevertheless so stoked to see activity from the band!

EDIT: On the topic of what the letters stand for, it was suggested on Insta or Reddit that the album title might be 'To War' which doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility. I have no qualms with it per se but it would feel a little bit like we're tipping towards the 'Drones' side of the Muse scale, which is not exactly my favorite shade of Muse but c'est la vie!

Would it be irrational to say “pls don’t let LP9 have Covid/vaccine conspiracy lyrics”?

The thought crossed my mind as well. The boys are entitled to their opinions and conspiracies are kind of their thing but an anti-vax album would bum me out.

As for the song: the production sounds promising. Not a metal head but they usually have a diverse sound so I’m not worried about it. Still, new Muse to ring in the new year has me absolutely elated!
